A smarter way to manage building access

KONE Access™ connects elevators and turnstiles to your building’s access control system, so tenants and visitors can enjoy touchless access all the way to their destination without compromising security.

Built-in support for multiple access media — like key cards, mobile wallets and QR codes — adds flexibility, while API integration eliminates the need to manage multiple apps.

KONE Access™ is straightforward to roll out across all your elevators, making it a cost-effective upgrade that works for your entire building from day one.

Full flexibility for every building

Improved people flow and security

Integrate elevator access control with your building systems to enable smarter, more organized movement through the building. Personalized elevator calls are triggered automatically when a user taps their card, reducing lobby crowding.

Easy and straightforward installation

KONE provides a complete package of all hardware and software for the access control of elevators and turnstiles. KONE Access™ utilizes networks that the elevators already use, so there is no need to install parallel networks.

A partner network at your service

Our wide global network of certified partners can help to set up your site for easy access integration. For companies going through the integration for the first time, we offer a well-established framework.

Scale up and adapt as your needs change

As your building evolves, so do the needs for access control. Whether it’s daily visitor passes or tenant changes, KONE Access™ always stays up to speed thanks to constant database synchronization with the building access control system.

How KONE Access works

Seamless Integration

The connected journey

Integrated access readers in destination operating panels, turnstiles, or conventional elevator control devices form a safe access network across the elevator system. An API connects KONE Access™ with your building access control system, enabling it to adapt to any changes. Support for multiple access media such as RFID cards and tags, mobile wallets, and QR codes adds flexibility to serving both permanent tenants and visitors.

Powerful access management

Manage who goes where

Create temporary visitor passes and manage tenant access rights and profiles in the building access control system. This information is shared automatically with the KONE Access™ system over API for secure elevator and turnstile access control.

Customized elevator calls

Personalize the elevator experience

For buildings with destination control, elevator calls can be fully personalized: home floor routing, priority dispatch, accessibility features and space reservation. For conventional elevator groups, floor-based access or device unlocking can be managed both from landing panels and inside the elevator car, based on user profiles.

Access monitoring

Stay in control

Monitor access points and device statuses in real time, review data logs and usage reports with KONE E-Link™, and utilize the optional integration to your building management system. KONE Access™ also supports integration on site with multiple access control groups, making it the ideal solution for multi-tenant buildings.

Frequently asked questions

  • KONE Access is an access control system for elevators that can be easily extended to include turnstiles in new or existing buildings. The system integrates with the building’s access control system to create a secure, building-wide network. Users authenticate at access readers provided by KONE or a third party using the same access media — such as cards, tags, or mobile wallet credentials — used elsewhere in the building. Access rights are managed in the building system and continuously shared with KONE Access through API integration.

  • KONE Access utilizes existing elevator networks for data transmission, eliminating the need for parallel networks. Its pre-wired, factory-installed access readers can deliver up to 80% savings in material and installation costs compared with add-on elevator access control solutions. Customers still have the freedom to choose their preferred access cards and manage the system directly through the building’s access control system. Third-party readers can also be used with KONE Access at elevators and turnstiles, although this may reduce some of these benefits.

  • KONE Lane is a next-generation turnstile designed for premium lobbies and high-traffic environments. Winner of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 in Interior Design Elements and Innovative Products, it integrates directly with KONE Access and KONE's destination control system. KONE Lane combines a footprint up to 90% smaller than conventional turnstiles with intelligent time-of-flight tailgating detection and seamless elevator call functionality.

  • Yes. KONE Access utilizes dedicated elevator networks for data transmission and on-premises integration with the building’s access control system. User access data is continuously synchronized with KONE Access through the integration, ensuring any changes made by building administrators are automatically updated. In terms of privacy, the KONE Access system does not even need to know the cardholder’s name to authenticate access rights. The system is also designed with redundancy, eliminating single points of failure.

  • KONE Access is designed to integrate with the building’s access control system, allowing receptionists or facility managers to issue temporary visitor credentials directly through the building access control system interface. KONE readers at elevators and turnstiles then verify visitor access rights in the same way as for any other user. KONE devices support technologies such as QR codes, RFID cards and tags, and NFC/BLE-based technologies such as mobile wallets, helping make every visit as smooth as possible.

  • KONE specialists can provide a list of certified access providers that are directly compatible with KONE Access. For new access providers, KONE offers a well-structured integration framework, including initial Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT). Alternatively, a certified middleware provider can be used to enable compatibility between the building access control system provider and KONE Access.
